Discovering the best ways to detox your Pineal Gland may be far more important than you realize. Not many people have even heard of this little gland, which sits in the middle of our brains. Recent research over the past four or five decades has, however, revealed the importance of this little fellow, and have linked it to physical and mental well-being, some even linking it to spiritual health too, hence its nickname “the third eye”.
The Modern Lifestyle is not Pineal Gland Friendly
The modern lifestyle choice that many people adopt in the 21st-century mean that the Pineal Gland is bombarded with unwanted toxins, both through the food and drink that we consume, and the stress related chemicals that our bodies produce. The result is that it becomes hardened, calcified, and loses much, if not all of its function. The good news, however, is that it can be resuscitated back into full health through detoxification. But before we go any further, let’s learn a little more about the Pineal Gland.
About the Pineal Gland
Your pineal gland is no larger than the size of a pea and it’s found in the center of your brain. It’s shaped rather like a small Pinecone. Its job is to secrete Melatonin, a chemical that regulates our sleeping patterns. As well as helping to regulate sleep, melatonin is also a strong antioxidant and helps to slow down the aging process. The other chemical that the Pineal Gland secretes is Serotonin, a so-called Neurotransmitter that is responsible for maintaining a happy and well-balanced state of mind.
The Third Eye
Whilst not scientifically proven, people have reported elevated feelings of empathy when given a Melatonin supplement. It has also been hypothesized that the pineal gland manufactures DMT, a chemical that is associated with dreams, hallucination, and creativity. It is these characteristics that may have led to the belief that the sometimes called “Third Eye” is essential for spiritual health.
Decalcify the Pineal Gland: How It Becomes Calcified
As we age and gather more toxins in our bodies, the pineal gland starts to calcify. Public enemy number one is Sodium Fluoride, which as you will appreciate, is found in most drinking water in the civilized world. It is also found in many toothpastes. Other things that lead to calcification of the Pineal Gland include:
- Caffeine (don’t forget its present in tea as well as coffee)
- Dietary hormones
- Mercury (found in most fish)
- Most processed foods
- Refined sugar
Being Careful with Mercury
The fact that mercury is found in most fish is a bit of a downer. However, some fish has lower levels of mercury than others. You can check out this article for advice on mercury and a list of different fish, and the different levels of mercury they contain. Having established what foods, drinks and substances to avoid, let’s now move onto the ways of detoxing your Pineal Gland.
Detoxify the Pineal Gland # 1 – Activator X (Vitamin K1/K2)
Activator X is a Vitamin that is manifested in 2 ways- K1 & K2. K1 is found in green leafy vegetables. K2 is created by microflora in the intestines, and is also found in certain foods including: Chicken or goose livers, diary from organically reared cows, egg yolks, fish roe, fish oils (omega 3), sauerkraut, and shellfish. When combined with vitamins A and D3 it is a powerful detoxifying agent that promotes the removal of calcium from arteries and the pineal gland, transferring it instead into your bones, where it does most good.
Detoxify the Pineal Gland # 2 – Boron
Boron is another powerful Pineal Gland detoxifying agent. It also has the ability to remove fluoride from the body system, and so, is helpful for preventing further calcification. It is found naturally in Beets. Organic Beets are best for maximum detoxifying capability.

If it’s just you eating it, then you can nullify the odor it leaves on your breath by soaking it in freshly squeezed lemon juice, or some of that cider vinegar we mentioned earlier. It enhances the flavor of the lemon or vinegar too, so don’t waste it, use it as a salad dressing.

Iodine has been medically proven to help the body to shed sodium fluoride through the process of urination. But it’s is one of the minerals that many people have low levels of. Rich sources of Iodine are found in Seaweed. One thing to watch out for is the fact that it also lowers calcium levels in your bones; so in order not to deplete your levels too low, you should take a calcium supplement when eating foods that contain Iodine.
